One of the questions brands starting or growing in e-commerce in Türkiye ask most often is: Shopify or ikas? Both are modern, subscription-based platforms that require no server management. However, their strengths lie in different areas, and the right choice depends largely on where, to whom and how a brand wants to sell.

At Booster Wizard we are an official Shopify Partner, and we are the team that moved Koolseed from ikas to Shopify. In this article we compare the two platforms criterion by criterion and explain why we recommend Shopify even to brands whose sales are in Türkiye. We checked every point about ikas against ikas's own website and developer documentation; as package contents can change over time, we recommend confirming the latest details on ikas's website.

The Short Answer

Even if most, or all, of your sales are in Türkiye, our recommendation is Shopify. It is true that ikas offers local payment, shipping, e-invoicing and marketplace connections out of the box; on Shopify, we at Booster Wizard cover these needs with ready-made apps and, where no ready-made app exists, with custom apps we develop for you. On top of that, with its fast and scalable infrastructure, design freedom, broad app ecosystem and a set-up that is ready the day you go abroad, Shopify gives your brand more room in the long run.

Türkiye-Specific Infrastructure: Payments, Shipping and E-Invoicing

ikas has a clear advantage here. It offers integrations with virtual POS providers such as iyzico, PayTR, Paratika and Tami, as well as its own fast checkout solution, ikas Hızlı Öde. On the shipping side, there are integrations with carriers such as Aras Kargo, Yurtiçi Kargo and HepsiJET, plus shipping agreements that can be set up through ikas. For e-invoicing, integrations such as Paraşüt, Sovos, QNB eSolutions and EDM Bilişim are listed, and for accounting and ERP, Logo, Mikro and Nebim.

On Shopify the picture is different: Shopify's own payment solution, Shopify Payments, is not available to stores based in Türkiye. Local payment providers such as iyzico or PayTR are connected through apps or custom integrations, and the instalment and 3D Secure flow has to be planned from the start. Shipping and e-invoicing also rely on ready-made apps or bespoke development. The setup does not come as ready-made as it does on ikas, and that is the part we take on: we choose and configure the right app, and where there is no ready-made app, we develop a custom app for your brand with the Shopify Admin API and webhooks.

Marketplace Integrations

ikas offers integrations with marketplaces such as Trendyol, Hepsiburada, Amazon and Etsy, aiming to keep product, stock, price and order information in sync from a single panel. Which marketplace integrations are included depends on the package you choose, so be sure to review the package comparison.

On Shopify, connections to marketplaces in Türkiye are usually set up through third-party apps or custom integrations. We settle on the solution together before the migration: if a suitable app exists for Trendyol, Hepsiburada or n11, we install it; if not, we develop a custom integration that keeps products, stock, prices and orders in sync with Shopify.

Selling Abroad

ikas has its own e-export offering too: chief among its features are unlimited language support, pricing products in different currencies, country-based theme management, international payment options such as Stripe and PayPal, and international shipping through Navlungo, although the scope of some features may vary by package. For a brand that sells abroad occasionally, these tools may well be enough.

This is where Shopify's real strength lies. With Shopify Markets you can sell to multiple countries from one store, in the local language and with market-specific prices, and set up a separate domain or subfolder for each market. Because agencies, developers and app providers around the world know Shopify well, finding a team and tools becomes easier when entering a new country. One note: Shopify stores based in Türkiye cannot take payment in local currencies; orders are processed in the store's default currency, TL, although market-specific price adjustments still work.

Design and Theme Flexibility

ikas's theme editor makes it easy to build a mobile-friendly store without technical knowledge using drag and drop, and it offers free themes. For developers there is a theme development kit on ikas.dev, while brand-specific theme coding is part of ikas's Premium service.

On Shopify, Online Store 2.0 themes let you manage sections and blocks from the theme editor, and metafields let you add extra information to products. Because the theme code can be edited directly, a fully bespoke design is possible, and the choice in the theme store is wide. For brands that want a distinctive store experience with a strong visual identity, this flexibility makes a real difference.

App Ecosystem and Customisation

ikas's own app store includes marketplace, marketing, accounting and shipping integrations. Marketing tools such as email, SMS, pop-ups, segmentation and affiliate programmes are also offered as ikas's own products. For developers there is a GraphQL-based Admin API, which can be accessed through a private app created in the store admin.

The Shopify App Store, meanwhile, offers thousands of apps for almost every need, from email marketing, subscriptions, loyalty and reviews to product personalisation and reporting. For processes without a ready-made solution, bespoke apps can be built with the Shopify Admin API. For brands that want to use global tools and the latest marketing apps in particular, the breadth of the ecosystem is one of Shopify's greatest strengths.

Technical Infrastructure and Scaling

Both platforms work on a SaaS model, so you do not deal with servers, security or updates yourself. ikas hosts stores on Amazon Web Services and provides an SSL certificate; it also offers additional sales channels such as B2B selling and POS Lite. On Shopify, hosting, SSL, security and platform updates are managed by Shopify, and the sitemap and robots.txt are generated automatically. On both sides, a growing catalogue and heavy traffic during campaigns are designed to be handled without changing infrastructure.

Support and Language

With its Turkish-language panel and local support channels, ikas offers a comfortable experience for brands in Türkiye. It provides support by phone, email and live chat, offers onboarding training for new stores and provides migration support for brands coming from other platforms. Its help centre is available in Turkish, English and German.

Shopify's admin is also available in Turkish. Because Shopify is a global platform, working with a partner who has local knowledge of Türkiye-specific payments, shipping and e-invoicing makes the process noticeably easier. We provide support in Turkish for the stores we build and migrate, from set-up through to after launch.

Cost Structure

Rather than quoting figures, it makes more sense to look at what the cost is made of, because both platforms' prices change over time. On ikas, which integrations and services are included varies between packages, and many local connections can come as part of the package. On Shopify, the total cost is made up of the plan fee, subscriptions for the apps you use, payment provider commissions, the theme and, if needed, custom development. Check current plan fees on each platform's own website and compare the total cost of ownership rather than the monthly fee.

Why Shopify for Türkiye-Focused Brands Too?

Even if all of your sales are in Türkiye, these are the main reasons we recommend Shopify:

  • Speed and performance infrastructure: Shopify serves stores through a global content delivery network (CDN) backed by Cloudflare, and you do not deal with hosting, SSL or updates.
  • Reliability on campaign days: you do not need to plan servers separately for busy sale periods; Shopify handles global peaks such as Black Friday on the same infrastructure.
  • Design freedom: with Online Store 2.0 and fully editable theme code, you can build a store experience that is unique to your brand.
  • A broad app ecosystem: thousands of apps are ready for needs such as email marketing, loyalty, subscriptions and personalisation.
  • Custom logic that runs server-side: with Shopify Functions, discount, delivery, payment method and cart validation rules run on Shopify's infrastructure, and because custom apps connect through the Admin API and webhooks, there is no need to load extra scripts in the shopper's browser.
  • Integration with any set-up: we connect local payments, shipping, e-invoicing, marketplaces and ERP systems such as Logo, Mikro and Nebim using ready-made apps or custom apps we develop at Booster Wizard.
  • No second migration: the day you decide to go abroad, Shopify Markets is ready in the same store, so you do not need to change platform.

Migration: How Do You Move from ikas to Shopify?

If you have decided to move to Shopify, your data can be migrated directly through APIs rather than exported from the panel. We connect to ikas's GraphQL Admin API with a private app created in the store, and read products, variants, categories, customers and past orders through that connection. Once the data has been adapted to Shopify's structure, it is written to the new store with the Shopify Admin API, and 301 redirects from old URLs to new ones are created automatically in the same way. Because the migration can be re-run, changes made up until launch day are carried over as well.

Conclusion

ikas is a good product, serving many brands in Türkiye with its ready-made local integrations and Turkish-language support. Even so, when we weigh today's goals and tomorrow's together, our recommendation is Shopify: fast and scalable infrastructure, design freedom, a broad ecosystem and a set-up that is ready for selling abroad. We set up the Türkiye-specific connections with ready-made apps or apps we develop specifically for you, making your Shopify store complete for your customers in Türkiye.
